The Public Policy Initiative at UCR aims to bring together faculty and students from different disciplines to work on issues of policy importance to the region, state, nation and the world. There are three main activities being organized currently by the PPI:
  • A  new undergraduate major and minor in Public Policy in the College of Humanities, Arts, and the Social  Sciences (CHASS)
  • The  Paul and Diane Garrett Public Policy Seminar Series
  • A  proposal to establish a full-fledged School of Public Policy at UCR
The proposal to establish a UCR School of Public Policy got a major boost when the UCR Academic Senate voted unanimously on November 20, 2007 to approve the proposal. The proposal has now gone to the UC systemwide Senate and the California Post-Secondary Education Commission for approvals. It is expected that UCR will receive formal approval from the Regents of the University of California to establish the School sometime in Spring or Summer 2008.
